ENERCON has substantial experience in helping clients evaluate options and design independent spent fuel storage installations using dry fuel storage casks.  ENERCON helps clients review existing sites and select optimum locations for independent spent fuel storage installations.  ENERCON provides assistance in developing detailed technical specifications for dry fuel storage casks as well as completing design of independent spent fuel storage installations.

ENERCON provides support for civil structural design including seismic and soil structure interaction design, electrical and instrumentation and controls design, lighting and security design, and safety analysis to address potential accidental releases from spent fuel storage facilities.  ENERCON also provides support in evaluating potential effects from installation of heavy haul roads on buried components and utilities, requirements for uprating cranes that will be required to handle spent fuel storage casks, and licensing and procedures requirements to support implementation of Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations.

ENERCON has provided support for the design and construction of more than 23 different Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations for both pressurized water reactors and boiling water reactors.  ENERCON has worked with numerous spent fuel storage cask vendors including TransNuclear, NAC and Holtec.

ENERCON also provides support to fuel cask vendors including criticality safety analysis, structural analysis, thermal response analysis, and design evaluaitons.  ENERCON has provided support for design of new fuel transportation casks as well as spent fuel storage casks.
