Electrical Engineer, Nuclear Services Group (NSG)
Office: Baton Rouge, LA
Time with ENERCON: 6.5 years
As the Electrical Lead in the Baton Rouge office, Esteban is often the electrical RE or Lead RE on projects. He assists his supervisor with resource management, provides mentoring to less experienced engineers, and ensures the team maintains high quality standards.
What is your vision for your role?
As leads, we mentor, provide technical input, and oversee day-to-day activities within our groups. We often lead multi-discipline projects with resources in various offices, which require us to interact with many people at all levels in the company daily; from interns to management. My vision is to leverage the roles of a lead to build bridges between groups, offices, and divisions by fostering trust, collaboration, and teamwork. In addition, as group leads our actions and influence have the potential to affect the trajectories of people’s careers (or their lives). Therefore, I try to empower and inspire others to be better engineers and/or people with every interaction.
What is something many people may not know about you?
I have a gorgeous half Bolivian, half American, 1-year-old baby boy and he is as blonde as can be. I also enjoy fishing the Louisiana marshes out of a kayak and compete against the best anglers in the south.
What makes ENERCON different from other places you’ve worked?
ENERCON is full of opportunities. The dynamic environment we work in allows for new opportunities every project, every day. Not just career opportunities, but opportunities to grow as an individual, as a peer, as a leader, etc. “Good” projects or “challenging” projects, every day there is an opportunity to be better than the day before.
What’s the most unusual/surprising thing you’ve encountered in your job?
Coming into the job, I was surprised to see “young” engineers taking on leadership roles in our day-to-day projects and within the company. I later understood that with the opportunities and level of exposure we get at Enercon, experience cannot be measured in years. I also had the opportunity to participate in Enercon’s Emergent Leaders Program, which is designed to encourage and develop leadership within the company. The combination of endless opportunities and an encouraging environment is the recipe for success here at Enercon.
