ENERCON is proud to partner with an Advanced Nuclear technology vendor in supporting the design of the Liquid, Gaseous, and Solid Radwaste (RW) Systems, as well as the Radioactive Drains System (RDS) for their plant design. This project marks a significant advancement in modular nuclear technology, focusing on the development of safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant waste management systems. ENERCON’s engineering team is tasked with progressing the RW systems through the design process, ensuring that all deliverables meet the rigorous standards required for future licensing and deployment.

The scope of work includes development of the System Design Descriptions (SDDs), component classifications in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.143, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and input to the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR). These efforts are foundational to establishing a robust and scalable infrastructure for radwaste handling within the technology vendor’s framework.

ENERCON’s engineering approach is comprehensive and multidisciplinary. The team performed waste classification and quantification based on source term and radiation transport analyses, classified major components and structures, and updated system documentation to reflect evolving design requirements. ENERCON also completed calculations for tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, demineralizers, degasifiers, and spent resin systems, among others. Further, ENERCON interfaced with industry leading radwaste system vendors and prepared a conceptual design for implementing their latest radwaste system equipment into the plant.

“ENERCON is proud to support the design of the Advanced Nuclear radwaste systems for this Advanced Nuclear Technology Vendor.  By working closely with a radwaste system equipment vendor, ENERCON is incorporating the latest and best available radwaste equipment which is both efficient and cost effective.”, Jay Basken, Engineering Vice President, Enercon Services, Inc.
