Through successful completion of 300+ of retrofit and greenfield Data Center projects over the past 10 years, ENERCON has been recognized as a trusted partner by one of the world’s top hyperscalers and was recently selected to design their newest version of AI Liquid Cooled Data Center campuses in the Midwest totaling up over 1GW at full build out across the 3 Data Center campuses. ENERCON is partnering with an experienced Data Center Architect as the EOR for Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Telecom, Controls, and Environmental/Water Treatment for the first phase of the campuses which includes nine (9) two-story Data Centers and 4 Ancillary Buildings per campus (Security, Logistics, Access Control, and Ancillary Water).
This project is a testament to the innovation and owner’s engineering approach that ENERCON is respected for by this top hyperscaler, as this is a first-of-a-kind design in their development of a new AI Liquid Cooled design template.
- ENERCON’s MEP team partnered with the owner’s engineering team to address design decisions for equipment selection, liquid cooling conversion, data hall layout, lighting design, water treatment approach, site utility coordination all with scalability, reliability and speed-to-market considerations.
- ENERCON’s Structural team performed a study to optimize the structural template design for use in all different regions across the country with consideration of steel tonnage and varying snow, wind, and seismic design requirements. ENERCON partnered with a steel fabricator to consider both economic and structural design considerations for this effort and performed full structural analysis (ETABS/RAM) of the all varying conditions to provide the best template design.
- ENERCON designed a unique proprietary modular data hall racking design which integrates cable trays, server rack anchorage, lighting, liquid cooling supports, and whips in a structural steel system that allows for quicker installation and modular fabrication with the ability to ship in sealand containers. ENERCON developed the fabrication 3D models and structural engineering basis of design and ENERCON’s design is successfully being deployed at these campuses and others across the globe.
- Due to well water usage at one campus to support Liquid Cooling, ENERCON is provided full Water Treatment RO design services as a part of the Ancillary Water Building. ENERCON helped develop the template for the Water Treatment system agnostic to any one vendor to allow for flexibility and speed to obtain the necessary equipment. ENERCON’s ability to provide full MEP+CS services along with Environmental/Water engineering showcases ENERCON’s ability to provide all necessary engineering services for Data Centers under one firm.
The key driver to success for this 3 Data Center Campuses project is ENERCON’s responsive team of project managers and discipline leaders that support fast-paced data center design. This project requires ENERCON to act as a prime with flexibility and high coordination given it is both template design development and permitted design with aggressive timelines. ENERCON’s team communicates very proactively with the partner architect and subs, the owner’s engineers, and the owner’s project management. The project started as one campus design, and due to ENERCON’s ability to deliver and coordinate our 1600+ engineer workforce for additional support, two additional campuses were provided with simultaneous deadlines and ENERCON has successfully delivered to meet all permit deadlines for all 9 Data Center buildings.
With the rise of demand for AI and Liquid Cooled Data Centers, ENERCON’s engineering and environmental teams provide an experienced and responsive team to deliver on all facets of data center development. ENERCON brings a team of industry leading engineers for data center campus design, power generation, transmission, substation, environmental, site due diligence, and advanced nuclear technologies including SMRs. With over 40 years of experience, our experts work with Hyperscale, High Performance Computing (HPC), Enterprise, Co-location and utilities from across the country to meet new demands on our power delivery infrastructure.
