Substation Outdoors

Substation Outdoors

Enercon Services Inc. (ENERCON) completed a 69/12kV Substation Transformer & Breaker Replacement project for a Utility client to strengthen power grid and improve resiliency.

This project involved the replacement of 69kV/12kV transformers, 12kV circuit breakers, and associated equipment at a Midwest investor-owned utility (IOU) Substation. The scope of the work included revising or replacing existing transformer foundations, installing a new control house and battery system, and installing new protective relays and SCADA equipment. The project also involved an RTU replacement, the installation of fiber optic patch panels, and the replacement of existing radio with an Orbit IP Radio.

Solution:

  • The scope of work for the Substation project included revising or replacing existing transformer foundations, installing a new control house and battery system, and installing new protective relays and SCADA equipment.
  • The project also involved an RTU replacement, the installation of fiber optic patch panels, and the replacement of existing radio with an Orbit IP Radio.
  • Additional tasks included removing and installing a transformer, installing a new transformer pad with oil containment, removing fuses and switches, moving arresters, installing new trench and conduits, grounding the transformer foundation grating, extending the bus, replacing station power transformer and fuses, replacing circuit breakers and foundations, adding PTs on a new bank, replacing switches, expanding the fence, moving AC panels into a new control house, adding a battery system with charger, and a new auto transfer switch for the station.

Outcome:

This 69/12kV Substation equipment replacement project was a comprehensive effort to upgrade essential systems and ensure optimal performance at the IOU Substation in the Midwest. Substation Engineers from ENERCON were able to provide timely support and deliverables to ensure the construction was completed within budget and schedule constraints.
