ENERCON personnel led a coordinated effort of the nuclear plant’s environmental compliance department and a subcontractor to open and sample 18 drums containing various waste materials that had been stored onsite for several years. The program was initiated to assist in sampling all the various materials in the drums and some ancillary waste streams to determine whether any of the materials were classified as RCRA hazardous waste or mixed (hazardous and radiological waste). As part of the program, we coordinated the sample collection, management, and transport of the samples to an offsite laboratory. Data were analyzed for final shipping and waste classification, and arrangements were made by ENERCON to prepare shipping papers and oversee packaging, loading, and transportation to a permitted site for disposal.
